HOW WE STARTED

The Care Habit - was founded in 2020 as a social business by Jena Diwa - Mills and came as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the Philippines.

 

Jena had been for years advocating and working on ethical and environmental care (which started with organic urban farming) based in Manila, Philippines. 

 

While she continued to grow in her passion sharing and training communities about skills development and education related to promoting sustainability, Jena also began studying the different ways that she could use herbs and plants grown at home and discovered the possibility of making organic soaps. 

 

During the time the initial impact of the pandemic was felt in communities and hand washing hygiene emerged as one of important ways people could protect themselves, it soon became clear to Jena that her newfound care habit was a great opportunity to help out, especially the most impacted and marginalised groups in the city.

 

So she got to work and started making soaps and donating them to people from different communities around Metro Manila, partnering with friends, churches, institutions and organizations that were distributing food and hygiene packages in different parts of NCR. 

 

This drive later on spawned the idea for creating The Care Habit - a social business that produces natural, healthy organic products, featuring Jena’s handcrafted organic soaps and also serves to provide soap to different groups and communities in need. 

 

As a new chapter of The Care Habit continues to unfold, Jena's passion draws itself to the vision of empowering communities especially women, tapping upon their natural caring spirit and unearthed creativity that can serve them with opportunities in developing livelihood pursuit to help their families.

 

Jena currently offers soap making trainings and workshops with individuals, groups and communities and in addition, a mentoring service for her trainees as they embark on the journey towards living sustainably.
